Taloja Manufacturing Site Awarded Top Honour at The National Energy Conservation Awards 2009

The Rohm and Haas India manufacturing plant in Taloja, an integral part of Dow Advanced Materials Division, was awarded first prize in the chemical sector at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2009, recently held in Delhi. The annual affair is organised by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and assessed by the Director of the Central Electricity Authority, a unit of the Ministry of Power. The awards recognise outstanding achievements made by organisations to reduce energy consumption through innovative processes and efficient equipment. Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Hon. Union Minister of Power. Government of India presented the award to Anil Gupta, Plant Manager, Taloja. “This award is a testament to the dedication towards energy conservation shown by Rohm and Haas India and continued since the company’s integration into Dow in 2009. As a part of its 2015 Sustainability Goals, the company is committed to achieving a 25 per cent reduction in energy consumption in all our locations around the globe by the year 2015. It is part of our firm belief in using resources more efficiently to provide value to our customers and stakeholders, while also enhancing the quality of life for current and future generations”, said Harish Badami, India president and area director, Dow Advanced Materials division. The Taloja manufacturing facility has undertaken a wide variety of measures to reduce energy consumption, including more efficient management of plant fuels, improved planning and management of production processes, and improving the efficiency of all machinery and equipment at the facility. This has resulted in a 10% reduction of energy consumption over the past year, while still maintaining excellent production levels. The award comes on the heels of other recognitions received by the Taloja facility for its environment, health & safety (EH&S) achievements, having received the Greentech Foundation 2007 silver award for sustainability and more recently the Greentech Foundation’s gold award for environmental excellence 2009. The Taloja site was inaugurated in 2003 and is located in Taloja on the outskirts of Mumbai, India. The site manufactures products for two businesses in the Dow Advanced Materials Division product portfolio, coatings and adhesives & functional polymers. The site produces more than 40 individual products for sale across markets in India and the Middle East.
