Purchasing Model Slashes Cost of Solar Power
As the solar market in the United States surpasses $6
billion, governments and businesses can save money by
joining together to buy solar power. The report "Purchasing
Power: Best Practices Guide for Collaborative Solar Procurement"
presents an innovative approach to solar power purchasing
that can yield 10 to 15 percent lower costs and save 75
percent of administrative time and fees, while helping
participants negotiate better contract terms to save money
in the long run. "This is the 'Groupon' model of

San Francisco Launches
Solar@Work The City of San Francisco launched Solar@Work,
a new program that offers solar energy systems to businesses
in the Bay Area through an innovative group purchase
model. The new program makes it possible, for the first
time, for small- and mid-sized businesses and commercial
property owners to pay less for solar power than they
pay for electricity from the grid, without local rebates.
As the first major commercial group purchase of solar
power in the United States, Solar@Work will bring together
interested participants to buy more than 2MW of solar
power over the next 6 months. Read
Hindalco : Investing
in Renewable Energy
The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission is in place
and India is on track to achievve mission goals of having
20,000 MW of solar power by 2022. State governments
have also framed policies to support the mission. Aditya
Birla group has invested in the opporrtunity by establishing
a solar business group responsible for implementing
full cycle solar projects under the national and state
level policy frameworks. This would comprise technology
selection, financial closure, project management and
arrangement for sale of units. The solar business group
would provide a platform for the entire group, including
Hindalco Industries, to have a share of renewable energy
in their energy mix and help traverse a low carbon growth
path.
The business is in the process of commissioning a 15
MW Plant in Gujarat, with future target of setting up
200 MW of solar project in by 2013
Toys“R”Us Inc announces
plans to install north America's largest rooftop solar
power system at distribution center in New Jersey

Toys“R”Us, Inc. today announced plans to add the largest
rooftop solar power installation in North America to
its distribution center in Flanders, NJ. Staging for
the system is currently underway and construction will
conclude this summer. Upon completion, the 5.38 megawatt
on-site solar mechanism will occupy 869,294 square feet
and is estimated to generate 72 percent of the electrical
needs for the Toys“R”Us®facility. Read
