We have shared
foreign embassies in most of the UN member countries and
in SARs and some non UN member countries.
These
embassies are typically based in the capital of the country
and may have offices in other cities in the country (e.g.
in our global sample country India, may embassies have
consulates in Mumbai, some have consulates in Bengaluru,
Chennai, Kolkata and may be other cities)
What
is the difference between an embassy and consulate ?
An embassy is the larger representation, but
a consulate is only a smaller version of the embassy.
There will be one embassy of one country in the country
but there can be more than one consulates in the country
(specifically in large countries like India).
Consulates
in a sense can be called junior embassies. Embassies are
permanent diplomatic missions generally located in a county’s
capital. Consulates are located only in bigger cities
and not in the capital city.
