Difference between
Neurologist and Psychiatrist
Key Difference
Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of
A neurologist - disorders/diseases related to the nervous system.
A psychiatrist - mental illness as well as emotional disorders.
Neurologists treat conditions like sleep disorders, epilepsy,
brain injuries, migraine headaches, brain and spinal cord tumors,
etc
Nervous system is very important as it controls both behaviors
and sensation (balance, ambulation, reflexes, memory, speech,
language, etc.).
Psychiatrist is a medical practitioner who treats
the disorders related to mental illness. These illnesses are recognized
by similar signs and symptoms which exhibit the activity of mind
like memory, emotions, sensory perception, attention, pleasure,
etc.

Difference between
Neurologist and Neurosurgeon
When
a patient has neurological symptoms, often their initial evaluation
is with a neurologist, who might obtain imaging to get to the
source of the problem.
If they discover a structural problem, such as a tumor, they'll
refer the patient to a neurosurgeon.
"I love being in the operating room," says Dr. Bergsneider.
"The primary reason surgeons become surgeons is because they
like to operate, and that's where we are the happiest. It is a
very fulfilling profession in that you can really see the fruits
of your labor in the recovery room."
Neurology
Neurology is the branch of medicine that deals with
the nervous system. Common neurological disorders include epilepsy,
headache, Parkinson disease, and dementia, as well as neurological
problems caused by other disorders, such as cerebrovascular disease
and infections.
Hundreds of millions of people worldwide are affected by neurological
disorders: more than 50 million people have epilepsy; around 47
million are affected by dementia globally.
Moreover, the extension of life expectancy and the ageing of
the general populations in both developed and developing countries
are likely to increase the prevalence of many chronic and progressive
physical and mental conditions including neurological disorders.

The
global plan aims to improve the lives of people with dementia,
their families and the people who care for them, while decreasing
the impact of dementia on communities and countries.
Mental disorders
Mental
disorders comprise a broad range of problems, with different symptoms.
However, they are generally characterized by some combination
of abnormal thoughts, emotions, behaviour and relationships with
others. Examples are schizophrenia, depression, intellectual disabilities
and disorders due to drug abuse. Most of these disorders can be
successfully treated.
