Shinano-gawa
Shinano-gawa is the longest and also the largest river in The Land of the Rising Sun. It is located on the island of Honshu and it has its rise in the Japanese Alps especially at Mount Kobushi. It flows towards North and it empties into the Sea of Japan. The length of Shinano is 228 miles (or 367 kilometer). Due to its considerable size Shinano-gawa serves as an inland waterway as well. Niigata is the most important and the final port town of the river. Okozu Canal is the most important ‘establishment’ on the river: it not only prevents floods in Niigata but it also fills important rice fields around the city of Niigata.
